Hyatt pavilions on Rhine boulevard Cologne

Two glass pavilions in front of the Hyatt-Regency Hotel in Cologne, situated on the right bank of the Rhine river, present themselves as walk-in art objects on the Rheinboulevard. In order to accentuate the unique urban space, the architectural concept is based on the idea to define the location as public space and to turn it into an extension of the Rheinboulevard and its stairs. Any building appearance of the complex is to be reduced to a minimum. To achieve that effect Gatermann +Schossig initiated a competition for artists to design the façade pattern. The Viennese artist Peter Kogler convinced the jury with an oscillating, three-dimensional ornament, that refers to the reflection of the Hohenzollern Bridge in the water.
