Port Authority Cologne _OK_LAURA
Extension of a historic ensemble
Additional office space was added to the listed Neo-Romanesque Port Authority building and its adjacent engine shed. Two new structures, clearly different in design from the historic architecture on site, were attached. Between the old and new buildings, an atrium was built that houses a lift tower and staircases which links the old and new and enables a variety of communicative activities. Strong use of colour and the introduction of a major new contemporary artwork by artist Thomas Weil, also create a refreshing dialogue between the old and new structures.
